Emojis- The New Language

There’s no denying it- emojis have become an integral part of how we communicate on social media. Many people use emojis to convey their emotions in a visual way, while others use them ironically, or to represent a visual story. Emojis have become their own virtual language and knowing how and when to use them separates the social media amateurs from the pros! If you need help deciphering the emoji language and using it to your benefit, we are here to help. Many emojis are self explanatory, like a smiling face ????, but what about these commonly used, more cryptic emojis:????????,????, or ????????? These are the emojis that accompany many social media posts, but using them in the correct context can be hard to achieve. As an example, the “praise hands” are used in any situation in which pizza, Beyonce, or other popular praiseworthy subjects are present. Case in point: This tweet utilizes several emojis and is an accurate representation of one way emojis are used in social media today; they are added as a visual representation of a user’s emotions and reactions to the subject. Navigating the emoji waters ⛵️ is quite easy once you get the hang of it! That brings us to our “Qodehack” of the day: how to access the emoji keyboard on a desktop or laptop! Previously thought to only be accessible on mobile interfaces, there is a simple way to access your favourite emojis when tweeting or posting from your computer. On a Mac, the simple key command is COMMAND+CONTROL+SPACE BAR. While on Facebook, Twitter, Skype, etc. using this command will bring up the “characters menu” which includes the full emoji selection! On a PC (Windows 8+) activate the touch keyboard, which will have a smiley emoticon that will give you access to emojis. How can emojis help your business? Well, using them strategically and in the correct context will gain you big social media points with your audience, especially if your target demographic is millennials. They will see that you are engaged in the culture and they can appreciate a well-played emoji. Posting to a Facebook page from your Instagram Account

With the recent Instagram update allowing users to be logged into multiple accounts, it has never been easier to switch between your personal and business account. With a simple click, users can now swap between 5 Instagram accounts. While this update has definitely made things a lot easier on Instagram, it can still be quite confusing when trying to integrate your business and personal Facebook accounts into your Instagram profile. Qode Social has the perfect guide on how to seamlessly switch between posting to your personal and business Facebook account. When posting a photo on Instagram users have the option of sharing that photo directly to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Flickr during the posting process. Normally when you reach this step, clicking on the “Facebook” button will share the photo to your personal account. If you are using a business account or want the photo posted to a different Facebook page, you’ll have to follow these steps to make that change: Open the “settings” menu for Instagram on your phone; on a iPhone this can be found by clicking the cogwheel on the top right, on an Android phone it can be found by selecting the three dots “. . .” on the top right side of the screen. Once selected, make your way down the screen until you come across “Linked Accounts”. Once you’ve entered this section you’ll notice a long list with a ton of social media channels; some you may regularly use and others you’ve never even heard of! Amongst those, Facebook will be the first social on that list. Upon clicking Facebook you’ll be asked to login. Once this is done, the Facebook icon should be coloured blue, meaning you’re fully connected. Clicking the icon and then proceed to click on the “Share to” button. Currently this is defaulted to your personal timeline but can now be switched to any page that you manage. This means that during the posting stage, when you select Facebook, your image will the shared to the selected page. Keep in mind that this change will affect all Instagram accounts that you manage. If you want to start sharing photos to a different Facebook page simple go back and change the selected page in the settings. It’s simple tips and tricks like these that make navigating social media that much easier. Facebook F8 Conference: The Future of Facebook

On April 12, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke at the company’s F8 developers conference. After opening with a moving speech about keeping everyone connected in an ever-changing world, Zuckerberg then unveiled Facebook’s bold 10-year plan. No stranger to innovating how we interact online, Zuckerberg has his sights set on a bright and bold future for Facebook and digital interaction.   Messenger: Chat Bots A change coming in the near future is the introduction of chat bots into Facebook’s Messenger platform. Zuckerberg views this new feature as an opportunity for “you to message a business like you would message a friend.” Currently in beta testing, some businesses and brands, such as CNN, 1-800-Flowers, Health Tap, and Spring have implemented a chat bot into Facebook Messenger. This enables businesses to reach customers in real time, and deliver automated customer support through social media. For example, if you want to order shoes or flowers, engage the chat bot in Messenger and type a simple statement like “I want shoes”. The chatbot is designed to interact with your input, and will respond with suggestions or deliver support based on your messages. So buckle up- the bots are coming!   Live Video With real-time interaction becoming a big trend in social media, Facebook has introduced its version, built right into its platform. With other social media channels like Snapchat and Periscope paving the way for real-time video streaming, Live Video enables a user to live-stream content right into followers’ newsfeeds. Zuckerberg demonstrated this by employing a drone to film and stream the keynote speech to Facebook using Live Stream.   Virtual Reality/ Augmented Reality Zuckerberg’s sights are set on a long-term plan for Facebook that involves the development and revolutionizing of VR and AR technologies. Currently we are witnessing the race to innovate with VR and AR technologies with products like Google Cardboard and the Oculus Rift. Facebook acquired the Oculus company in 2014, and at this year’s F8 conference, they revealed a design for a high-end 360 degree video capturing system called “Surround 360”: 17 synchronized cameras record 8k video at 60 frames per second. The result is high quality video footage that can be uploaded with very little post-processing, making it ideal as the next-level of video posting on Facebook. We’ve scratched the surface of the announcements made on Tuesday, and there’s more to come on April 13- the F8 conference is a two day event. With every passing year, social media networks are finding new and improved ways for us to connect using digital media. Social media has evolved from a simple instant messaging application to a global network; where you’ll soon be able to share high-def 360 video on your Facebook profile. It can be tricky navigating the ever-changing world of social media, but if you have the right ally you can rise to the top of the social...

Why Your Business Needs a Blog

Why Your Business Needs a Blog

Having an online presence is necessary for most businesses. Your online presence can be a driving force for marketing and sales, by targeting potential clients who may not have been reached otherwise. Having social media accounts for your business, and keeping these profiles consistent and updated is definitely a priority, but there’s another way to promote your business online that’s often overlooked: blogging. Blogging is an extremely useful way to promote your business online. In fact, Qode Social offers blog services in our Gold and Premium packages– that’s how important it is! Blogging is a simple way to connect with current and potential customers. It’s very easy to use and easy to integrate into your website; many websites are already created around WordPress, which is the largest blog and content management system. Blogs are less limiting than a 140-character tweet or a Facebook post. You’re able to write large amounts of content on a blog, which opens up a lot of different ways to advertise your business; you can start a discussion with readers, write a review or upcoming product feature, talk about industry trends, or post important news updates. This will create a more personal relationship between your brand and your customers, letting your brand’s personality shine while giving your company a new marketing outlet. Blogs are also strategically important when it comes to SEO because posting quality content will greatly benefit your page’s SEO ranking. A blog gives you a lot of control over specific but important SEO strategies: inner linking, keywords, more indexed pages, but most importantly, content. Having a blog that is regularly updated is very important for SEO purposes, because Google favours sites that regularly introduce new content. If you’re looking at implementing a blog or social media services for your business, contact Qode Social online or give us a call at 647-951-0763.
