Instagram Notifications: A Quick Rundown

Chances are you’ve noticed a lot of buzz on social media about Instagram changing. But before we all go up in arms over the latest Instagram update, we’re here to give you a rundown of the changes, and what it means for you as a user. We like to stay on top of all the latest social media news, and recently wrote a blog about the breaking Instagram update news. A rolling stone gathers no moss, so Instagram keeps rolling out the changes; the latest update brings notifications into the mix. Instagram notifications? Because the algorithm that orders your feed will be changing, only the posts deemed relevant to you will appear in your feed. Posts that get major action are more likely to be placed in your feed, which means the posts that get less likes will get left in the dust. In order to keep up with your friends and favourite profiles, you can now activate notifications for individual profiles. How do they work? For each profile you want to keep up to date with, you can activate push notifications that will inform you whenever that user posts a photo. This ensures you won’t miss out on content that may otherwise be deemed “less relevant” to your feed. To turn on notifications for profiles you wish to follow, you click on the “three dots” on their profile page, or beside their photo in your feed. Will people still see my posts? Sure they will! You can remind your loyal followers to turn on notifications for your posts. To keep your posts in others’ feeds,  save the title image we provided at the top of this page, and post it on your Instagram profile as a reminder for your followers to turn on notifications for your posts. We like to keep you in the loop on all things social media. Qode Social is proud to be Toronto’s social media marketing experts, so if you need guidance with your social media strategy, we’re here to help: call us at 647-951-0763 or send us an email– let’s chat!...

Happy Birthday, Twitter!

Happy Birthday, Twitter!

On March 21, 2016 Twitter turned 10! It seems like only yesterday that tweeting was just for birds. But 10 years ago, Twitter was born, and over the course of a decade, it has changed the game- 140 characters at a time. In 2006, social media was in its infancy; people did not yet rely on it for news, real-time updates, and believe it or not, “selfies” were not yet a cultural phenomenon. Twitter began as an experiment, to see if people could adopt and adapt to a character-limited way of social communication. As we reflect upon how far our tweets have come, we look back on the first tweet ever by Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey. Many have scoffed and laughed at the various “actual tweets from 2006” lists circulating the Internet. But what makes this so interesting is what makes these first tweets comical in the first place. Twitter and its users have greatly matured over the last 10 years, so looking back to the “rudimentary” tweets of the past makes people realize just how different our online interaction has become, especially on Twitter. These days, Twitter is a sounding board, a 24/7 news channel, a protest, a circle of friends, and a soapbox. In 2006, people were just getting accustomed to limiting their thoughts to 140 characters. Now that we’ve had 10 years of practice, our tweets are eloquent snippets of deep thought, comedy gold, or ranting rhetoric. Twitter has become woven into the fabric of our culture, and it is a method of communication that is taken seriously by the masses. Your Twitter handle is your calling card, and your profile is where you can voice your opinions, tell a joke, interact with your favourite organizations and people. Marketing is a big part of Twitter, and one of the best aspects of social media is getting the chance to interact with your most loved companies and brands. Have a suggestion, complaint, or comment of praise? Tweet at the company, and they are able to respond directly to you. Consumers are no longer an anonymous mass- you can make your presence known! As Toronto’s social media marketing gurus, we at Qode Social know a thing or two about effective social media marketing strategy! Great campaigns are launched through Twitter, where retweets and mentions get you a chance at winning a great reward! Twitter is an amalgamation of brands and businesses you can interact with, paving the way for newbies like Snapchat to be viably used by businesses for marketing purposes. So here’s to Twitter, for changing the game and opening the doors for a future of connectivity and digital community....

Your Instagram Feed is about to See Ch-Changes

Your Instagram Feed is about to See Ch-Changes

Big news once again in the realm of social media- Instagram has become the latest platform to make major updates to your feed. In an announcement made on March 15th, Instagram will adopt a relevancy-optimized feed, replacing the current chronological ordering of posts. According to Instagram, the algorithm will now order the posts in your feed based on “the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting, and the timeliness of the post.” Basically, if your favourite celebrity posts a photo that blows up, you will see that in the top of your feed regardless of the time it was posted. Or, if your best friend posts a picture of their sushi at 8 pm, you could see it in the top of your feed at 9 am the next morning. This update follows the changes introduced by Facebook, and most recently Twitter, which influence your feed based on algorithms ordering content depending on its relevancy to you. This Instagram update is a total plus for those who aren’t checking the app 15 times a day, because you won’t miss out on the big content. However, some posts that are deemed irrelevant or boring may be shut out of your feed, whether you like it or not. Strategically, eliminating this lackluster content may help keep users engaged and reduce the risk of a dull post pushing a user to close the app and move on. Following the last big update of adding multiple accounts on your Instagram, this algorithmically sorted feed will be rolled out slowly, dipping users’ toes into the waters of change. In the near future, your content will have to be on it’s A game if you want to get users’ attention. Luckily you have Qode Social, Toronto’s social media marketing gurus, on your side and we know our stuff! And hey, check us out on Instagram for all our latest and greatest...

Using Snapchat for your Business

Posted by on Mar 11, 2016 in Discussion, Social Media Tips

Using Snapchat for your Business

Social media marketing is a great way to digitally expand your business and bring awareness to your brand and products. Most people use the “big three” (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as a way to build their online following, but what about the less obvious social media networks? Can you use them for business?  You sure can! At Qode Social, one of the top leading Social Media Marketing companies in Toronto, we never limit your online profiles to the obvious choices, but rather to the choices that work for your brand; and recently Snapchat has become a great way to create brand engagement.   What is Snapchat?   Snapchat is a mobile app that allows users to send short videos or pictures that are only available for a limited time; once you look at the picture or video it disappears forever. There are also Snapchat Stories, a series of snaps that form a narrative all users can see for 24 hours.  Although the app is limiting to mobile, mobile social media apps are constantly growing and are starting to surpass desktop apps. In 2015, Instagram hit over 400 million subscribers, passing twitter with only 316 million; Instagram is also a mobile only application.   Why Snapchat?   Since Snapchat content is generally real-time, it gives you the opportunity to share live events with followers as they are happening.  If something interesting is happening at your business or with a product, you’re able to share that with fans immediately. You can also take your followers behind the scenes by showing production or sneak peaks of products. Snapchat content is generally more private; you can target specific people and it will all be deleted within 24 hours. This is great for content that is very specific, as it won’t clutter up your timeline like other social media channels.   Snapchat is also a perfect way to implement a contest, perks or promotions. It allows for two-way communication between a brand and a consumer, making users much more likely to engage. You can offer a discount or perk once your whole Snapchat story is watched or if your followers send you a picture with one of your products! Snapchat has become another great way to interact online. At Qode Social we make sure your brand is getting the best online exposure it can get! Give us a call at 647-951-0763 to get started today....

Facebook changes how we interact online, again

Facebook changes how we interact online, again

Facebook has once again changed how we interact on social media. Facebook’s latest press release reveals a push in their new live streaming feature. The social network has plans to make live video easily accessible by putting the video at the top of News Feeds as they’re streaming. This new streaming push will guarantee that live videos get boosted over pre-filmed content. Facebook has also updated their mobile apps to incorporate the new features. The feature is added as the popularity for streaming sites such as Twitch continues to grow. Although Twitch is primarily used to stream live video game accomplishments and walkthroughs, Facebook is encouraging users to use the Live options for other reasons. Live musical performances, news, video game streaming or just chatting with friends are some of the suggested uses of the new streaming feature. Facebook hopes that the features will become standard and change the way we interact online. “It gives people to express what’s going on in their life now, what they care about, without having to feel like it’s some super curated thing and I think that’s going to be very powerful,” said Mark Zuckerberg. It seems that Facebook will also use the new live feature to promote specific events and products through largely followed celebrities and pages. Although the feature has only been rolled out to 30 countries, we can expect a global release extremely soon. Do you plan on using Facebook live? Do you think Facebook live will be a great outlet to showcase your product and do live demonstrations? Want to use Facebook live and aren’t exactly sure how to cater it to your brand? Qode Social is amongst the top leading Social Media Marketing companies in Toronto; give us a shout and we’ll help you find what works for you best.  ...
